A catastrophe occurs even before the war has begun.

The EU has collapsed, and right-wing populist forces have formed a new government in Germany. War is imminent. Jonas (Enno Trebs), who has known nothing but peace, prosperity, and security, is about to be drafted. He deserts and hides with his father, Stuber (Ulrich Matthes), with whom he has had no contact since childhood. When he promises his help to a fleeing stranger, the conflicts with his father intensify, as the latter is no longer willing to put his own safety at risk. The situation escalates and leads to a catastrophe in which Jonas becomes complicit through overwhelm, disappointment, and fear, even before the war has actually begun. Jonas sets out in search of a way to deal with his fractured identity in a changing world.
