Plot

While touring in Italy, a recently-widowed American opera singer has an incestuous relationship with her 15-year-old son to help him overcome his heroin addiction.

Following the sudden death of her husband, Caterina Silveri leaves New York for Rome so she can continue her opera career while raising her troubled teenage son Joe Silveri. As Joe falls into heroin addiction and drifts through the city's criminal underworld, Caterina grows increasingly desperate to keep him alive, even as the lines between maternal care and emotional dependence begin to collapse. Hidden truths about Joe's biological father reshape their journey across Italy, pushing both toward painful confrontations with the past. Opera performances, addiction, fractured family bonds, and unresolved longing remain tightly intertwined throughout the story.
