Plot

In a violent, near-apocalyptic Detroit, evil corporation Omni Consumer Products wins a contract from the city government to privatize the police force. To test their crime-eradicating cyborgs, the company leads street cop Alex Murphy into an armed confrontation with crime lord Boddicker so they can use his body to support their untested RoboCop prototype. But when RoboCop learns of the company's nefarious plans, he turns on his masters.

Alex Murphy patrols a city that has already decided he is expendable. OCP doesn't resurrect him out of mercy; they need a product. What they get is something messier. Buried beneath behavioral directives, Murphy's memory keeps surfacing at the worst moments, turning routine enforcement into something far more volatile. The closer he gets to the men who destroyed him, the more his programming strains against what he actually is. He cannot officially want revenge. But he does. That gap between what RoboCop is permitted to be and what Murphy cannot stop being is where the film lives.
