Plot

An Oxford Medical School graduate takes a position at a mental institution and soon becomes obsessed with a female mental patient, but he has no idea of a recent and horrifying staffing change.

A couple of days before 1899 Christmas, Oxford graduate Dr. Edward Newgate arrives at the Stonehearst Asylum to complete his training in asylum medicine. He is met by armed men who take him to the Head Doctor, Silas Lamb, who welcomes his help and takes him under his wing. Edward is shocked to see the way Dr. Lamb runs the hospital, and the unorthodox treatment methods. He becomes infatuated with one of the patients, a lady of status who does not seem to belong. Edward begins to suspect that there may be more going on in the hospital than he has seen. Deciding to gather evidence and test his theories, Edward is shocked by what he discovers.
