Plot

A teenage girl living with schizophrenia begins to suspect her neighbor has kidnapped a child. Her parents try desperately to help her live a normal life, without exposing their own tragic secrets, and the only person who believes her is Caleb – a boy she isn’t even sure exists.

In Florida, after a severe bout of schizophrenia and a period in the psychiatric hospital, the teenager Rain returns home with her parents John and Michelle Burroughs. She is outcast at school by her former friends, but the newcomer Caleb, who is a nerd, befriends her. Rain has psychiatric sessions with Dr. Pangloss and needs to use many medications, but has some difficulties to know what is real and what is not real. When she hears the cry of a girl, she believes her next-door neighbor and teacher Dani McConnell has kidnapped a child. Caleb decides to help her, but Michelle believes he is an imaginary friend.
