Plot

Polish immigrant Karol Karol finds himself out of a marriage, a job and a country when his French wife, Dominique, divorces him after six months due to his impotence. Forced to leave France after losing the business they jointly owned, Karol enlists fellow Polish expatriate Mikołaj to smuggle him back to their homeland.

Karol Karol loses his marriage, livelihood, residency, and dignity after his French wife divorces him over their unconsummated relationship. Penniless in Paris, he meets fellow Pole Mikoaj, whose strange offer provides both a route home and an unexpected second chance. Back in Poland, Karol rebuilds himself through increasingly audacious schemes, discovering that money can restore the power he feels he lost. His growing wealth changes his relationship with Mikoaj, his ambitions, and his understanding of what he wants from Dominique, setting him on a deeply personal path toward revenge.
