Plot

The war came to Pskov when Vera Tsoblina was 8 years old. Instead of school, she learned to survive on the streets of her hometown. The winter of 1941-1942 turned out to be especially cold. Children often ran to the railway to look for pieces of coal that were not completely burned in the locomotive furnaces. Once, during such a “soray,” the children saw stacks stacked along the railroad bed. They thought it was firewood. But these were the bodies of Soviet prisoners of war frozen in ice - an entire train was unloaded here, in which no one survived. These terrible “death trains” came to Pskov throughout the first war winter. The plot of the film reveals deep psychological and social conflicts, immersing the viewer in an emotionally rich story. The main characters face difficult life choices, overcome a series of serious trials and search for their own path to truth and justice. The director's work is distinguished by the highest mastery of storytelling, impeccable framing and attention to the smallest details of the character of each character.
